Our Team                                                     çµ„

IDT comprises of seven mechanical engineering students. Four from the University of Strathclyde and three from Tokyo Institute of Technology. With a wide range of skills developed from working across a number of engineering sectors IDT are confident that together we can engineer successful solutions.

Campbell McFadden, Team Leader, Analysis

I am an Aero-Mechanical Engineering student with a vast amount of industry experience having completed three internships in material science, oil and gas and a year-in-industry with one of the world's largest aerospace companies. I was motivated to travel to Japan through competing abroad as part of the Scottish National Handball team. I am a keen golfer, though my ability doesn’t reflect my enthusiasm!

Kyosuke Kobayashi, Project Manager, Design

I study Mechanical and Environmental Informatics at Tokyo Institute of Technology and major in Control Theory and Mechatronics. I have gained experience in mechatronics, such as circuit manufacture and microcomputer control and worked as a GUI developer within industry. I wanted to be part this project to face challenging tasks and improve my all-round engineering ability. Through working with the students from Strathclyde, I want to learn about their personalities and Scottish culture and values.  I studied kendo for 10 years but now I am involved in mountain climbing and skiing clubs.

Ryan Cogan, FEA Consultant and Kinematics Specialist

I study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and also have industrial experience in the oil & gas, spirit supply and navel defence engineering sectors. Visiting Tokyo has been something I had wanted to do for many years. The chance to combine this whilst studying at the finest Technical University in Japan seemed like the perfect opportunity to me. And, although the project seems very challenging, I believe with the team we have at IDT we can achieve great success! I’m a big sports fan, I play golf and I’m also a huge football fan. Whilst in Japan I’m also spending a lot of time travelling and absorbing the local culture.

Robert Peacock, Product Design and Development Consultant

I study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde with previous experience in biomechanics, renewable heating and design engineering over three successful internships.  This exchange will provide a valuable international engineering experience in one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world. In my spare time, I am a football referee for the Scottish Football Association. Currently in Japan, I am refereeing in the Tokyo Metropolis League, a football league aimed at the international community of Tokyo.

Peter Sclare, Detailed Design and Fabrication Engineer

I am also an Aero-Mechanical Engineering student at Strathclyde University. I wanted to be part of this exchange for a number of reasons.I’ve always been interested in Japan and the unique culture in the country. I felt that becoming part of the exchange was a special opportunity to experience Japan and truly live in the country rather than just visit. I know I would never meet the same number of local people of all ages when travelling and I think that these relationships provide a unique perspective on life here.

I have a lot to contribute to the project with both industry and academic experience and I'm looking forward to producing a great masters thesis as part of IDT.

Ueda Naoki, Software Fabrication and Testing Engineer

I study Mechanical and Environmental Informatics at Tokyo Institute of Technology. One of my proudest engineering accomplishments to date was being part of a team that won 1st prize at the CanSat Competition for the design and test of a satellite. We travelled to Blackrock Desert (USA) and launched it 3000m high by using model rockets and declined safely to the ground. I wanted to be part of this exchange project to work with students from abroad, learn their ideas and improve my English skills! In my spare time, I am the manager of the Tokyo Tech baseball club and my often play the piano. My favourite pianist is Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin.

Tuan Nyuyen, FEA Consultant

I study Mechanical and Environmental Informatics at Tokyo Institute of Technology. I have previous experience in finite element analysis, working for a year in industry at a steel casting company. With this experience, the prospect of completing biomechanical analysis while working on this project is very exciting. I wanted to be part of this international group to gain knowledge of foreign culture and improve my communication skills. In my spare time I love to cook, especially Japanese food!
