Concussion is a major health risk to sports professionals with media coverage has growing rapidly in recent times. The sporting world is now acknowledging the dangers of concussion and new rules and equipment are being introduced to minimise the injury. In response to this, IDT developed an instrumented gum guard system designed to inform medical officials of concussive head motions leading to player assessment and prevention of further head injuries.

Outside of the laboratory, IDT group members took every opportunity to absorb the Japanese life style and culture. Together we experienced the summit of Mount Fuji, the Kamakura Daibutsu (pictured) and the temples and shrines of Kyoto. Being part of a multinational group also provided the opportunity to learn new approaches and methods of solving complex engineering problems.

A five phase project management strategy was employed to aid and compliment the vast engineering project undertaken by IDT. Numerous management functions were employed to maximise the strengths of the group, control project risks and create a cohesive working style in order to achieve project objectives and deliverables.
